Our Heavy Rigid Licence Original Deal - $1395 

We offer a simple eight-hour heavy vehicle licence course. This includes a theoretical and practical test on a Heavy Rigid vehicle with a non-synchromesh gearbox, otherwise known as a road ranger. This course requires you to learn to double-clutch. Passing our road ranger training test will give you an HR open licence. 

 

Comprehensive, Practical HR licence Training

Learning double-clutch is necessary because road ranger vehicles are still in use. We prepare students to operate heavy vehicles with three or more axles and a gross vehicle mass of over eight tonnes. 

 

Flexible Truck Licence Training Options

We conduct lessons in two-hour periods to maximise learning while avoiding weariness. You can extend your sessions, but shorter courses may be more helpful for teaching double-declutching because it’s a new skill and you may suffer from fatigue. 

 

What You Can Drive on an HR Licence

A heavy rigid licence allows you to drive: 

  • Heavy vehicle with three or more axles and a gross vehicle mass greater than eight tonnes 
  • Towed trailer with a gross vehicle mass less than nine tonnes 
  • Light and Medium Rigid vehicles 

 

Before Road Ranger Training

Before your HR licence training, you’ll need: 

  • A car licence for over twenty-four months, or 
  • An LR or MR licence for twelve months continuously 
  • The heavy vehicle theory test

What do I need to get started?

To upgrade for a HR licence you must:

  • Have held you car licence for a period of 24 months continuously or
  • An LR or MR licence for 12 months continuously,
  • Complete the heavy vehicle theory test with TMR, and
  • Have paid the TMR driving test booking fee ($65.33) - $80.00 if we book and pay on your behalf.

FAQs

You’ll meet your trainer at our office, complete an enrolment form and begin the course. At the end, you’ll complete your Practical Driving Test. You can update your licence and your trainer will take you back to your car. 

If you’re unsure which package you'll need, you can book an hour at $140 and we’ll recommend a suitable course. 

You can take a practice test on our website and the theory test at a TMR Customer Service Centre whenever you like. 

We require twenty-four hours' notice to cancel a lesson or forty-eight hours’ notice to cancel a test. Otherwise, the full fee will be payable. Any refunds will incur a $50 administration charge.
